Deserted island essentials
Everyone has been asked this question in one form or another. Usually with the oh so clever response: "I'd bring a boat, ha ha ha...". With some relatively serious consideration, here are the 5 items I would bring on a deserted island if I for some reason knew in advance that I would be stranded there. Because I am sure that could happen.
1) A massive tub of sunscreen
I doubt many people would choose this. But I am pretty close to albino. And if I was stuck on an island with constant sun exposure... I would die. Also, it would be bad enough to be stranded on an island without the added discomfort of blistered dying skin. Just saying. Also, if there is such a thing as sunscreen that also includes insect repellant. I would take that. Although, would there be mosquitos on an island that was isolated from the rest of the world? Wow... I am really overthinking this.
2) A machete (Big friggen knife/sword thing)
This one is pretty self explanatory. You would need a big knife/sword thing for lots of reasons. Breaking coconuts in half, cutting off giant leaves for shelter and fighting of cannibals. Just the stuff you would expect.
3) A box of lighters
Yes, a whole box of them. I am greedy like that. None of this rubbing two sticks together business. I would be doing none of that. I want a nice and easy castaway life. Preferably with Tom Hanks and a ball named Wilson.
4) A big bag of rice
Sure it isn't the most nutritious of foods, but it is pretty filling. I have always said that I could live on rice. But that usually was accompanied with a plethora of sauces to choose from. It is also relatively easy to make. As long as I had something to make it in...that could become an issue.
5) A negative degree tolerant sleeping bag
So that I can be all snuggly on my private island. And not cold lol. Unless it is hot all the time on this specific island? In which case I guess I can just use it as a mattress. It's always nice when you are camping and it gets all hot, then when you get out of your sleeping bag and lay on top of it, the shiny surface side is always cold on your skin. Great feeling.
Well there you have it. That is my list. I think I went for the sensible route. Hope you enjoyed this post. Also, I would like to say a big hello to all of the international people reading this. Surprisingly there are more international people reading this than Australians. And I find that rather exciting. So thanks everyone! xx
